Overview

Machaca Hill Lodge is in southern Belize, in the Toledo district. It is renowned for having one of the healthiest permit fisheries in the world. In addition to excellent flats fishing for permit, Machaca Hill also is proud to say it is one of the few places were an angler has the possibility of catching a grand slam: (permit, tarpon and bonefish) all in a single day. In addition to the excellent fishing, Machaca Hill has luxury accommodations, gourmet meals, and a number of non-fishing activities available. "Outpost International" is the owner and it has completely renovated the lodge in 2008 - 2009. The 12,000 acres upon which it is set is classified as a private reserve to ensure that native Belizean flora and fauna is virtually undisturbed. The reserve surrounding the lodge also creates a unique feeling privacy.

Fishing

Machaca Hill has a long history as a fishing lodge and is known for having one of the healthiest permit fisheries in the world. In addition to excellent flats fishing for permit, Machaca Hill is also one of the few places were a grand slam (catching a permit, tarpon and bonefish) in a single day is a real possibility  It is also known as one of the most diverse angling destinations because of its proximity to the famous fishing grounds of Punta Ycacos, Wild Cane Cayes, Snake Caye, Punta Negra. There are hundreds of tiny islands and numerous freshwater lagoons and rivers including the Rio Grande, Golden Stream, Deep River, and Moho. It is a diverse angling destination, but  probably best known for world class permit fishing.  Permit are plentiful. The barrier reef flats and the Sapodilla Cayes are an 1 1/2 hour skiff ride away and offer excellent shots at bonefish. In the adjacent rivers, including the Monkey River, Boden Creek, Moho river etc., the Temash and the Sarstoon you will find tarpon and snook. Fresh water land-locked tarpon and bay snook are found in the inner lagoons of the Ycacos near Punta Negra. Whether Fly or Spin fishing is your game, the availability of permit, seasonal tarpon, snook and bonefish make Southern Belize one of few locations in the world that offers a legitimate GRAND SLAM opportunity all 12 months of the year. In addition to the big-four, Machaca Hill Lodge offers opportunities for several additional saltwater species including barracuda, jack crevelle, and snapper.
