Accommodations

Situated in the Owen River Valley in a garden-like setting, the lodge cottages overlook the Owen River with the Mt. Owen ranges soaring beyond. In addition to the comforts of the main lodge with its expansive deck and comfortable seating, 2 lounges a bar, Jacuzzi spa and pool, and well-appointed dining room, you will enjoy one of 6 private cottages with king-size or twin beds, reverse cycle air conditioning, and decorated with original artwork, and warm, inviting wood detailing and exposed beam ceilings. Each has a Spacious veranda with outdoor seating where you can read or simply take in the view. Each en suite bathroom is equipped with oversized towels, a hairdryer, shampoo and conditioner plus the cottage has ironing facilities, alarm clock, and tea and coffee making facilities. The cottages enjoy stunning views of the river, the valley and the mountains and are just a short stroll from the lodge lounges, bar, and dining room. Meals at the lodge are eclectic and superb, borrowing from Maori, Polynesian, Asian, and European traditions in a unique fusion referred to as “Pacifica Cuisine.”  The food is gourmet - really amazing. Meals are almost beyond description. Local produce prepared by a chef who is obviously very capable and experienced; everything is presented beautifully at the table by the window overlooking the river, and accompanied by some very good New Zealand wine. Really very classy.

Fishing

The Lakes region of the South Island is reputed to be one of the world's best brown trout fisheries. From home base on sixteen acres of beautiful riverfront property on the Owen River, more than 30 rivers are accessible by vehicle from the lodge or the helicopter fly-outs provide access to even more exciting, remote wilderness fishing. Unique, challenging trout fisheries offer the opportunity to spot the trout before casting to it. Sight fishing (which makes up about 75% of Australian/New Zealand angling) is demanding and intense when measured by Western fishing standards. The fish are large and wary. When stalking these fish, the perfect first cast is the ultimate weapon. Generally, the key to success down under is not the ability to make long casts but rather the ability to make gentle accurate presentations. Often, your target will be between 20 and 40 feet away. Anglers who embrace the necessary skills might expect to land three to four fish a day between three and five pounds, and while shots at larger fish will present themselves, hooking and landing the really large specimens is the exception, but is considered a real bonus! The professional guide team supports and helps you enjoy exceptional angling experiences on the water. The lodge has a selection of new fly fishing equipment for guests to use free of charge including Simms boots, waders and jackets, and Sage rods and reels.
