It is located outside the capital of the region of Coyhaique. This is an area widely considered Chile’s trout fishing Mecca. A first class lodge facility, it sets the new standard for the Coyhaique area. The lodge’s program offers a diverse and exciting array of excellent trout fishing locations as well as a variety of interesting activities for non-fishing partners. The Lodge’s setting is spectacular with the pleasant rolling foothills of the Andes leading up to higher snow covered peaks visible in every direction. Coyhaique River Lodge is a beautiful new facility overlooking the attractive Rio Coyhaique. The lodge is very contemporary while blending beautifully with the ancient and spectacular landscape surrounding it. The views offered from the lodge are – simply- stunning. The Lodge can accommodate up to 6 anglers per week plus non-anglers. It is located directly on the banks of the Coyhaique River of which a great view is offered from the dining room where both breakfast and dinner are served. Guests will enjoy dinners of local cuisine including beef and lamb dishes, fresh vegetables, and Chilean salads. Renowned Chilean wines from the lodge’s “Cava” are always featured. There are 8 double suites each with private baths. Each room is equipped with two queen sized beds, sitting area, and the exquisite views of the Rio Coyhaique valley. A wood fired hot tub overlooking the river is available upon request. The lodge has a small gift shop for souvenirs such as books, shirts, handicrafts, and fishing items.
The Coyhaique River Lodge offers walk and wade fishing as well as float trips on the following rivers: Rio Simpson: for fly fishing similar to classic Montana freestone and has significant caddis and mayfly opportunities. It is most often floated. Browns and rainbows average 14-22 inches, with trout up to 30 inches. This river has more fish per mile than most any river in the southern hemisphere. A substantial run of King Salmon return to this river in November. Nirehuao: perhaps the area’s most famous fishery, a mid-sized freestone wading stream known worldwide for its fantastic hopper Brown trout fishing during mid-summer. The lodge’s head guide, Alejandro, has guided this river for 12 seasons + and knows it like no one else. Fish average in the 12 -20 inch range but, those over 24” are present. Rio Paloma: begins in Lago Desierto and its semi–glacial turquoise waters run northwest to meet the Rio Desague. Another freestone river, it is most commonly floated or fished using jet boats and provides fantastic dry fly and streamer action throughout the austral summer. Mainly brown trout but rainbows introduced in the 90’s have proven to be a success. Trout typically 14-23 inches are taken from the crystal, clear Paloma waters. Rio Azul: Lago Azul and Lago Desierto, is accessible by boat only. Flowing beneath the shadows of Cerro Castillo, it is one of the world’s most beautiful trout streams. Brown trout from 17-21 inches are quite common with larger fish available. Jet boats are used to access this river and anglers most often wade fish here. Rio Desague: drains Lago Elizalde and runs about 5 miles before entering Lago Caro. In this short stretch of river, browns and rainbows in the 17-23 inch class abound with many larger trophies lurking. Jet boats are used to access this remote and scenic dry fly fishery. Rio Emperador Guillermo: is a gem, with multiple pools and riffles loaded with hungry trout averaging 12 to 16 inches. There are other rivers and several spring creek options available in the remote ranchland areas near the Argentine border. In addition to owners Gaston and Claudio who are among Chile’s finest guides, the lodge also contracts several top guides from the Coyhaique area.
