Overview

Abaco Lodge is one of the amazing sporting lodges in the Nervous Waters Family.  Over the past thirty years, The Carreras family and Nervous Waters have created the modern sporting lodge by focusing on things that are important to anglers. Providing the perfect combination of sporting excellence with top-notch accommodations and the highest level of total service, each lodge is unique. Beautiful private rooms, fine dining and service second to none ensure your ultimate comfort.

Accommodations

The lodge consists of eight tall ceilinged, air conditioned private rooms with private bath with walk in shower and oversized showerhead, and a single sink. There is also a safe for any valuables you wish to secure. An adjoining exterior deck complete with lounge chairs is a nice place to review your day and watch the sun set. At the main lodge you’ll find fully stocked bar, a large living room with comfortable seating, an outside fire pit, with patio space and a pool. The living room is adjacent to the dining room where delicious meals of fresh local produce, especially fresh fish (mahi, tuna, grouper, and snapper) conch and lobster are served. The chef bakes bread, pastries and cookies daily. The coffee is made from freshly ground beans and will be waiting for guests on the buffet or can be brought to your room!  A full breakfast is served each morning from rolls to cereal to eggs however you want them. A lunch menu is provided for you to choose your lunch for the following day.  Dinner , like the other meals is a mix of local dishes with light fresh recipes such as snapper with mango salsa, plus barbequed beef, fish and chicken. Desserts will vary from chocolate decadence to key lime parfaits and rum cake with  ice cream. There is an open bar policy at the lodge. On your return from fishing you will find cold beers, spirits, and a blender for cocktails, as well as stacks of soft drinks.

Also, delicious appetizers are served on the verandah, where you can sample local specialties such as cracked conch, grouper fingers and conch salad.

Fishing

Breakfast is served at seven and the boats leave the dock at eight. You can plan to return around four. This schedule can be tailored to your needs with advance notice. Picnic lunches and cold drinks are taken to the flats in a cooler, by your guide.

Abaco Lodge has access a vast labyrinth of flats (known as the Marls), mangroves… and numbers of Bonefish like nowhere else in the Bahamas. 20-30 fish a day is not uncommon, with 200 square miles of this prime Bonefish habitat awaiting anglers. The islands most knowledgeable guides and Hell’s Bay flats boats ensure a productive fishing experience. There are the occasional shots at Permit, Tarpon, Baracudas, Jacks, and Sharks. We recommend you bring the appropriate tackle just in case. For an additional charge you can book blue water fishing in search of Marlin, Sailfish, Dorado, Wahoo, and Tuna, depending on the season.

Forgot something – the Lodge shop carries Sage rods, Abel reels, Rio lines, backing and tippets, and a good selection of flies. Also: sunscreen, sun-gloves, dry bags, polarized sunglasses, and fishing shirts, caps and t-shirts.

Getting There

A number of direct flights from South Florida make Abaco lodge among the easiest bonefishing destinations. The majority of the fishing is done from the boat but wading opportunities exist. Runs to the flats vary from 10 to 45 minutes.
