Plummer’s’ Great Bear Lodge is located on the Dease Arm of Great Bear Lake, inside the Arctic Circle. The vast views of water and sky defy explanation – you just have to see it.  There is but 1 community located near Great Bear and that is 150 miles away.  This lodge is named for the constellation directly above it – ‘Ursa Major’ ; the Lake is 195 miles long and has a surface area of 12,100 square miles and at its deepest point, 1464 feet deep.  He lodge is on a small island and has individual cabins.


Individual cabins are well outfitted for your comfort. Great Bear can accommodate from 1 – 8 anglers. The cabins feature comfortable beds, hot showers, full bathroom,  electric or wood stoves and a pot of steaming coffee delivered to your front door each morning, The lodge features a lounging and dining area and fully stocked bar.  There is also a pool table for your enjoyment.


There is no better fishing in the world. Great Bear boasts the All Tackle World Records for trout and grayling, as well as dozens of line class records. You can spend the whole time at Great Bear or may opt to do a fly-out trip.

Getting There  

All guests visiting Great Bear Lake Lodge, will arrive at the lodge and depart from the lodge on a Saturday. Your trip will begin on Friday if you are starting out in North America. You will travel from your home to Yellowknife, Northwest Territories. There are several airlines that fly to Yellowknife from both Calgary Alberta and Edmonton Alberta. Upon arrival in Yellowknife, you will be met at the airport by one of the staff who will ensure that you get to your hotel and outline for you how the morning departure for Great Bear Lake will go.                                                                                                                     In the morning a shuttle will take you from the hotel to the terminal for the charter to Great Bear Lake. The time and charter vary but expect the departure to be mid- morning and the arrival at Great Bear to be around lunch time. You may be served lunch at the main lodge and then board a float plane or other wheeled airplane for Great Bear Lodge.


Nothing additional offered in this remote location. You may opt for a fly out trip at an extra cost.
