Overview

Wildwood Lodge, Rotorua is set in five acres of landscaped gardens with more than 500 feet of totally private lake frontage on the shores of tranquil and historic Lake Rotoehu. This lodge is a Qualmark 5-star luxury lodge. It represents the very best of contemporary architecture, offering total privacy and understated elegance for the discerning traveler. Wildwood caters to a maximum of six guests, with two large well-appointed suites in the main Lodge and an adjacent guest house. A large open plan design incorporates expansive decks. The Lodge offers a feeling of space and light. The eclectic ambiance is achieved by the use of natural timber flooring complemented by beautiful Persian rugs and there are examples of genuine 18th Century antique oak furniture. Original New Zealand contemporary art and sculpture are also displayed.

Accommodations

The Lodge suites, with king size beds, luxurious Italian linen, New Zealand wool products and electric under blankets ensure ultimate comfort during your stay. Both suites are identical, at over 400sq ft . They boast generous balconies overlooking the lake with walls of glass to the magnificent view. They are within 100 feet of the water and are exceptionally well appointed. Each has a large en-suite bathroom with walk-in shower, heated towel rails, universal shaver outlet and European fittings throughout. A baggage and dressing room with racks for suitcases removes your clutter and provides an airy and spacious accommodation. Each room has its own separate high pressure hot water system and individually controllable central heating. The Cottage is over 800 sq ft, offers luxury accommodations for two people and can be configured with super king bed or super twin singles. High quality Italian linen, New Zealand wool products and electric under blankets ensure your ultimate comfort. The separate baggage and dressing area with racks for suitcases, allows you to remove yourself from the clutter so frequently associated with travelling. With an open plan configuration, exposed ceiling beams, timber flooring and large areas of glass it provides a feeling of space and light. Views are exceptional and you will wake to an uninterrupted vista of the lake. There is a large deck off the lounge facing due North, and a smaller deck off the bedroom with private spa pool, set amongst a grotto of native ferns. The guest house allows you to relax, with a refreshment area and fridge, a large selection of coffee/tea, a library, central heating, sound system and comfortable leather couches, and plenty of hot water. Refreshments and Dining: Wildwood Lodge offers a fully inclusive menu for dinner, bed and breakfast, cocktails and an excellent selection of complimentary wines, including a number of gold medal winners, to accompany your meal. A further selection of French champagnes, highly prized and vintage New Zealand and Australian wines are available for purchase. With no refrigerators or coffee facilities in guest suites, guests are welcome to use the kitchen in the lodge. Meals are served in the main Lodge dining room or on the large outside deck, front lawn or may be brought to the guest house should you prefer.  Tasty New Zealand fare is the order of the day, including seasonal produce from the lodge garden is and guests' dietary preferences are considered.  A choice from the1,000 bottle wine cellar further complements the evening meal. Complimentary WIFI is available in every room of Wildwood Lodge, including the guest house.


Fishing

Whakatane township, situated on the East Coast is a 45 minute drive from Wildwood Lodge, a delightful day trip offers miles of sandy beaches and some of the finest salt water fishing in New Zealand. It is renowned for its Yellowfin Tuna and Marlin fishing during the summer months. Your host is a former record holder at the local game club, and guest entry can be arranged. Rotorua was granted the  World Fly Fishing Championships twice recently, a testament to the areas’ trout fishing. Your host is a member of the New Zealand Professional Fishing Guides' Assn. and has forty years' trout fishing experience in the area. River and lake fishing excursions for both the novice and experienced angler are available. The waters you will fish hold wild Rainbows and Browns, and they give an excellent accounting of themselves. There are no stocked trout and no other species in our rivers, you can expect some exciting sport surrounded by beautiful scenery. The fish range in size from 2lb to 6lb, with an odd monster occasionally.

Getting There

Fly into Auckland, Rotorua is a very comfortable three hour drive from Auckland and 30 minutes from the City of Rotorua.

Activities

Hinehopu Golf Club, is a two minute drive. Soda Springs is a totally natural thermal therapeutic spring is a two minute drive. White Island is an active volcano thirty miles off the East Coast of New Zealand. Helicopter flights operate scheduled daily services to the Island (they can pick you up at the lodge heli-pad.) A world-class sporting clay range is situated at the end of the lake just a short drive from the Lodge. It offers an exciting fifty bird shoot on a totally private estate and is a unique experience.(Allow half a day.)

In addition to the above, the city of Rotorua offers many lake walks from half an hour to a full day and are within a 30 minute drive, but by travelling a little further there are  great full day river and bush walks. Each offers exceptional scenery in the native bush, with few people to encounter, and they are well marked.

Other attractions include the world famous Agrodome, Hangi (Maori feast), trout springs, bunge jumps, horse treks, sky diving, river rafting and a luge. Rotorua has everything one would expect to find in New Zealand, with the exception of snow.
Personally escorted tours for sightseeing, shopping and bushwalking can be arranged.
