Guided fly fishing, spin fishing, lake trolling and jet boat fishing safaris or helicopter-fishing are all available. Hunting

Over 20 years of quality guiding experience is yours when you take a hunting safari with Four Seasons.Whether hunting for a "Roaring" Red stag, climbing the Southern Alps for the Alpine Tahr or Chamois the safety and well-being of clients is the primary rule.

*Because there are very low numbers of pure Wapiti left in the wild, free- range hunting is difficult and restricted to very remote areas in the South West of the South Island where there is a ballot system in place. All of Elk hunts are pursued on private game ranches, where the quality of the heads can be carefully managed to provide the optimum trophies for clients. The huge Elk has always been one of the most elusive trophies to take in New Zealand. This huge deer is the largest of the round-horned deer in the world, with heads running 6x6 (12 points) and larger. The best Elk trophies often exceed sixty inches in both length and spread and may weigh up to 1,000lb.

* Red Stag have much in common with the Elk, with trophy heads 6x6 (12-points) or more and weighing in generally around 400 pounds. New Zealand produces the largest Red Stags in the world and it is the main species inhabiting many areas in the South Island. It is a very sought-after trophy.

*Hunting the most elegant of all the Antelope in the World, the Chamois, with their extremely keen senses perfectly matched with incredible agility is quite a challenge. They are mainly found living above the bush line in much of the Southern Alps. Both the Chamois Buck and Doe produce similar horns and are equally regarded as top trophies. They offer an exciting and challenging hunt and are only hunted in the mountains of the South Island.

* The Himalayan Bull Tahr is the renowned “King” of the New Zealand Mountains, and inhabits the highest peaks and sheerest cliffs. It is justifiably one of the most sought-after trophies in the world. Transplanted into the Southern Alps from their native home in the Himalayas, they were released in 1904 at Mt Cook, New Zealand’s highest mountain.  Here they have thrived.  Because of the terrain they inhabit and the cunning of the Tahr, plus its agility to literally run across sheer cliff faces, it presents the hunter with a true challenge, testing even the most experienced.
