Namibia

Namibia is the austere cousin to South Africa. Vast, thinly populated, and dominated by desert-adapted wildlife — Hartmann mountain zebra, gemsbok, springbok, klipspringer, and some of the continent's finest kudu. The country's free-range or fair-chase hunting ethic is more demanding than South Africa's fenced-concession model; expect to walk and glass. A representative kudu in Namibia means more than a representative kudu almost anywhere else.

Erongo and Khomas mountains are the core hunting country, with outfitters running 50,000–100,000 acre concessions of native bushveld. The Caprivi Strip in the northeast offers an entirely different program — floodplain hunting for buffalo, croc, hippo, and riverine fishing for the legendary tigerfish on the Zambezi-Chobe system. Namibia + Zambia/Botswana combine trips are common for hunters seeking dangerous game in addition to plains game.

Windhoek (WDH) is the gateway; many outfitters provide ground transfers from the airport to the concession (3–6 hours typical). Most hunts run during austral winter, May through September. Rifle import is well-understood; SAPS permit not required (Namibia has its own process, handled by outfitters).
